Duplicate

The Woodbury Bridge Club hosts duplicate bridge sessions for two-person teams on most Monday afternoons  and Thursday mornings, as well as facilitating a duplicate session on Wednesdays. See the “Calendar” page for session locations and dates during the reconstruction of Woodbury’s Central Park. Currently, the Club hosts ACBL-sanctioned duplicate sessions when there are four or more tables (eight or more teams) for that session. Guests may play once, but must join the Club to play thereafter; see the “About” Page for information about membership in the Woodbury Bridge Club.

The time schedule for the duplicate sessions is as follows:

Mondays:

  • Signup: 12:00 – 12:15 pm
  • Session setup: 12:15 pm 12:30 pm
  • Play: 12:30 pm until boards completed

Wednesdays (American Legion bar in North St. Paul – see map)

  • Signup: 11:30 am
  • Play: Noon

Thursdays:

  • Signup: 9:00 am – 9:15 am
  • Session setup: 9:15 am – 9:30 am
  • Play: 9:30 am until boards completed

Results from sponsored duplicate sessions are posted on paper on the bulletin board on the back of the Club cart and are also Emailed to  Club members on the “Duplicate” distribution list. Results from ACBL-sanctioned sessions may be found under “Woodbury Bridge Club” on the ACBL Web site “Club Results” page.

Players are recommended to bring a partner to duplicate sessions, though a “pickup” partner may be available. Cost is $2.00 per player. for sponsored sessions, $5,00 for the North St. Paul session. Note that signup for duplicate sessions occurs a minimum of 15 minutes before play begins, in order that the Director may complete session setup.

The Club asks that duplicate players strive to make each duplicate session an enjoyable experience for all players. In keeping with this request, the Club asks that all players attempt to conform to the following Duplicate Expectations.

The duplicate Director may choose to impose time limits on the bidding and play of session rounds, and to penalize teams that do not complete play within the specified time limits. The Club has purchased computer software that can be used to manage time limits and to warn of the pending expiration of the time limits.

The Club Duplicate Committee is attempting to more closely align duplicate sessions with ACBL rules. In keeping with this attempt, the Club may begin enforcing ACBL rules for the use of bidding boxes, as outlined in Bidding Box Regulations. The Club may also begin enforcing ACBL rules for verbalization of Alerts, as described in ACBL Verbalizations. Players should also become familiar with the ACBL convention card.
